New ECPE e.V. Study and White Paper on Sustainability in Power Electronics

In September 2022, ECPE e.V. organised an online network discussion on the topic "Sustainable Power Electronics". The first outcome was a study, conducted by Prof. Regine Mallwitz (TU Braunschweig) and Prof. Christine Minke (TU Clausthal), entitled "Circular Economy Potential Analysis for Power Electroncis for Battery-driven Vehicles: Case Study On-board Charger" between June and September 2023.

Four single phase OBCs were investigated (one commercial device and three OBCs developed at TU Braunschweig) and analysed regarding mass and materials used there. The study reveales amongst others significant lacks of available data and their quality to conduct a profound life cycle assessment (LCA).

As well, ECPE and ETH Zurich published now a white paper entitled 'Sustainable Power Electronics', summarising the results from the expert discussion on “Sustainability in Power Electronics (Carbon Footprint, Life Cycle Assessment, Circular Economy)”.

Both files are available for ECPE Member Companies only under 'Studies, Reports and Further Proceedings'.
