The Cuk converter is a topology that has continuous current on both the input and output. To achieve this, the full current must flow through a series capacitor that is between the input and output sides of the converter. The topology does have the advantage that it only requires a single switch. When the switch is on the current in the input inductor L1 increases and current also flows from the capacitor to the load side. When the switch is off, the energy stored in the input inductor flows into the capacitor. The Cuk converter is also able to decrease or increase the output voltage below or above the input voltage, although the output voltage is negative.
