Mains Unbalanced

  • Overview

The applet shows a 3-phase voltage system connected to a load which is controlled so that it constantly consumes a real power of 10kW. This could be e.g. the behaviour of a PFC rectifier with controlled output voltage and constant load. The sum of all three mains voltages has to be zero. If mains voltages are unbalanced and phase or amplitudes differ from a symmetric 3-phase system, the space vector trajectory of voltage and current is not a circle but an oval. For a purely resistive load, there is no distortion of the mains current shape.

  • Operation
    • Drag the red points in the voltage time plot to unbalance the mains. The space vector trajectory will change from circle to oval.
    • Drag the red time slider to rotate the mains voltage and current vectors in the space vector plane.
